With the BLM movement at the moment, I see many comments on reddit and facebook saying the UK is as bad, if not worse, than the USA for racism. Loads of messages about how racist the UK is, how racist brits (or mostly the english) are. But this study by the EU shows we're by far the best western European country for BAME people on most metrics. ''The lowest rates" (of racist violence) "were observed in Portugal (2%) and the United Kingdom (3%)" ''Most respondents (79%) are aware of anti-discrimination legislation in their countries of residence. The highest awareness levels are found in the United Kingdom (87%) and France (81%), and the lowest in Malta (18%) and Italy (27%). '' ''The highest perceived rates of discrimination in the 12-month period are found in Luxembourg (50%), Finland (45%), Austria (42%) and Denmark (41%). The lowest are found in the United Kingdom (15%) and Portugal (17%). '' '' The highest paid work rates are observed in Portugal (76%) and the United Kingdom (75%), and the lowest in Denmark (41%), Austria (45%), Ireland and Malta (48% each)'' 'More than one in 10 (13%) respondents of African descent say that they have great difficulties in making ends meet – more so than the general population in the countries surveyed, except for Denmark, Ireland and the United Kingdom'' ''More than one in 10 respondents (14%) of African descent say they were prevented from renting accommodation by a private landlord because of their racial or ethnic origin.

Hey guys, So I'm thinking about creating a 1 or 2 week retreat in Portugal this December for Video game/internet addicts. At the moment we have 2 options. The first is that we all meet up and do volunteer work on an olive farm. We'll get free food and accommodation, plus we'll be in an environment where we have to do a mundane, repetitive, physical task that will help us resensitize our dopamine/reward circuits. Plus, we'll get to spend time with other people who have the same problem we do. We'll have a lot of light hearted fun, but we'll also be able to go deep and talk about our addiction and possibly work through the root cause. The second idea is that we rent an airbnb in the countryside. (I've found one that is €35 per day TOTAL for 12 people, or €3/person per day) If we do this we could focus more on developing healthy habits (such as yoga, running, meditation, working out etc). In either case, it'll be a chance to meet people going through the same struggles we are. We'll also have fun meeting new people and he able to spend a few weeks away from screens and games and the internet while our brains recover.

I'm looking for an apartament to rent in Lisbon. Yesterday I found one that seems okay but the owner of the place ended up being someone living outside of the country, so they sent me this email as how to proceed: "Hi again, Sorry for my long message but please read carefully all the steps. To can complete this deal we will use the biggest estate agency from world, Airbnb () I chose this option because, we would like to tell you what we happened last month, a bad story. We was in Portugal last month because we had to meet with a family who wanted to rent the apartment but when we arrived there, this family never answered the phone. As you can imagine we lost a lot of money (flight ticket, ). In next words I will explain you how works Airbnb (). They will provide assistance in handling the payment and delivery of the rental package. With this procedure you will be able to check the apartment before I receive the payment. To can register the transaction with Airbnb I need: your full name and full address ( address, city, zip code, country); a copy of your ID (identity card) ( Airbnb need to verify your details) your phone # (a valid mobile number where Airbnb can contact you) whatsapp for a faster communication; the date from when you want to move there how many person will live there I will go at Airbnb to deposit the keys and the contract on your name as the intended receiver.

Portuguese law is heavily weighted in favour of tenants and this acts as a deterrent to landlords who fear being unable to get rid of a tenant when a contract terminates. Long-term rentals don't usually include utilities such as gas and electricity (or heating). Short-term Rentals Short-term rentals are always furnished and are usually for holiday lets of a few weeks or months. A short-term or temporary contract is necessary, which provides tenants with less rights than a long-term contract. There's an abundance of self-catering properties for rent in Portugal, including apartments, cottages, farmhouses, townhouses and villas. Rents for short-term rentals are much higher than for longer lets, particularly in popular holiday areas where many properties are let as self-catering holiday accommodation. However, many agents let self-catering properties in resort areas at a considerable reduction during the 'low' season, which may extend from October to April. The rent for an average one or two bedroom furnished apartment or townhouse during the low season is usually from €600 to €900 per month for a minimum one or two month let.

Hello everyone. I hope y'all are ok. I'm sorry if everything I'm going to say is sort of unclear but I'll try to express myself as best as possible, I'm a bit nervous and I just know I really need your help. So, I'm a portuguese girl and let's say that I haven't had an easy life since I was a child, and I'm completely sick of it. I had a lot of serious health problems because I dealt with some trauma due to my mother's alcohol problems, bullying I suffered at school when I was younger, abusive relationships and so on... Obviously my health couldn't take it and I've been in a very dark place in my head and I decide to ask for help at 18. I went to the best clinics, I was medicated and I did therapy practically every day. I've been feeling better for about two years now and, fortunetly, I no longer need medication and therapy every single day and, about that, I am very satisfied and happy with the journey I was able to take and grateful for having sought help at that time. However, the way I live (really toxic family) and the wrong people around me (people with habits, mindsets and lifestyles I don't identify with) I feel like I'm getting worse, and I don't want to go back to feel how I felt in the past, I was very close to giving up on my life and I know the potential I have and how much I want to be happy... Jeez, I want that so bad.

Managed to finally sort my life out just after my dad died, or so I thought. I was renting a place, working at a bar making a good wage in a beautiful seaside town when I met a guy, everything was great, we lived together but when we broke up I found it too painful to stay and left England to work on farms in Portugal. It was great until I eventually ran out of savings (i was working for accommodation and food, not for money) and at this point I had no choice but to move back home for a while. I was so tired at this point that the thought of moving back actually seemed like a good idea, as if it would be of some comfort when I needed it most. Despite the fact that she had me arrested twice at age 14 (for smoking weed), drove me to move out at fifteen, and all the rest of it ~ she would never miss an opportunity to ask me to move back home whenever I would mention a problem on the phone. Argument with boyfriend? Dont worry, just move back here with me! Hard day at work? Just move back home!

In other areas of Portugal, the formal modalities of getting into a contract are a bit more relaxed and informal. In such areas, you can deal with the landlords directly without signing contracts. This is common if the landlord is not granted a rental license ("alojamento") for the property. We recommend the formal way as you will have legal cover in case of any disputes. The informal way could be somewhat problematic especially if you cannot communicate properly with the landlord. The tenancy contract should include details about the tenant and landlord such as nationality, date of birth, information about the apartment, the lease term and the amount of rent that must be paid and when. Security deposit and up-front rent payment At the beginning of the rental period, you will be required by most landlords to pay the rent of the first and last months. Sometimes, you also pay a security deposit which is is usually held by the landlord or leasing agency. This deposit is returned to you at the end of your lease period, in full, if nothing is damaged in the apartment.
