The Lifeboat was immediately launched and quickly recovered the boys into the boat, put a tow on the kayak and returned them to the beach and into the care of the Lifeguards boys were reported to be in good health and were given some water safety advice by the Lifeguards. Unfortunately and against advice given by Cork County Council installed signage, Lifeguards and Lifeboat crew people contintue to swim in the western channel. This ar... ea of Inchydoney is extermely dangerous and tragedies have occured here in the past. Inchydoney Lifeboat will return to service this upcoming summer season as a back up to Cork County Council Lifeguards at Inchydoney. Safety 1st always on or near the water. See More Inchydoney boat "Reat na hInse" on patrol off the eastern beach during the summer of 2020. Regular patrols are undertaken accross this beach heading towards the eastern bar and up through the eastern channel as far as Ring harbour. Down through the decades rescues were carried out in this area, including an incident occuring on Monday 7th August, 1995. The incident log report from this day states that Inchydoney was very busy with beachgoers enjoying a sunny day and calm sea... conditions. A Kayak had capsized off the eastern beach and the casualties two young males were unable to right the swamped craft.

Inchydoney Lifeboat 1970-2020 On 12th September 2020, Peter Walsh along with Kieran O Regan and Pat Collins set off on a 50K walk in order to raise funds for Inchydoney Lifeboat. Peter set up this fundraiser # Pedros50kwalk marking the milestone of his and the Lifeboat`s 50th year and raising an incredible 7, 714. 14 Euros. All involved with Inchydoney Lifeboat are extremely grateful to Peter along with Kieran and Pat who set off from Inchydoney that September morning. The trio... returned that evening having walked over 50k supported by their families and friends. This money raised by local people for a local Charity will be used entirely to keep the Lifeboat service at Inchydoney Beach going into 2021. If you can spot them, you may be able to avoid them. Cork Co Co Beachguards is at Old Head of Kinsale. The rip current at the western end of Garrettstown Beach evident this morning by the relative calm channel between the white breaking waves and the rippled surface of the water. Peter raised €7714. 14, all of which will be spent to keep Inchydoney Lifeboat afloat into 2021. Please be careful when swimming at Inchydoney especially on an outgoing tide. The fixed rip currents are still pulling hard during the Autumn, Winter and Spring as well as the Summer months. Check the tides before entering the water and if you see the water has a ripple look to it, as seen in this photo, avoid entering, be aware the temperature is starting to cool now and try not to swim alone.

This path is usually a break between two sandbars, as shown in the diagram. The current becomes focused between the sandbars, thus increases in speed seaward. Eventually, the seaward component of the rip will lose speed and disperse in the head area.
